When I was pregnant, the one thing I was warned about is how overwhelming it is to be a parent. Thankfully because of this, I was able to prepare myself, and yet at the same time, it still hit me like a truck.
The past few days have been extremely challenging with a baby who’s just only 6 weeks old. In the midst of trying to recover from giving birth, physically and emotionally, I’m running around trying to fit everything and everyone in.
Our washing is piling, the baby’s washing is piling, and I hate a messy, cluttered house. I just cannot stand untidiness – so obviously with a baby, I’ve had to learn to be okay with a little clutter.
Some days, I get nothing done because Katie demands a little extra time of snuggling to sleep, or she takes a little longer to drink than usual.
I found myself feeling overwhelmed because this needs to be done, that needs to be done. I need to find time to cook, I need to do this and that.
Then God reminded me – it’s okay to just leave everything and snuggle with Katie.. she’s only so small for so long and before I know it, she will be too busy for cuddles.
This tiny little human being, requires so much of my time and so much of me as a mother that I’ve felt extremely overwhelmed, not on several occasions but all the time. Everything about my former life is gone. Now everything needs to revolve around her.
And you know what?
It’s okay… She is priority now. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed – because it’s a huge blessing. It’s a blessing to be a mother.
Are you overhwlemed by something in your life? Work? Wedding planning? Ministry work?
It’s okay to be overwhelmed. God promises to be with us. He has showered us in blessings and even if we don’t see it as a blessing, it is a blessing.
Let’s look at the ways God assures us that He is with us:
“From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
Psalms 61:2 NKJV
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord , The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.”
Isaiah 40:28-29 NKJV
“No one is holy like the Lord , For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.”
I Samuel 2:2 NKJV
Let us look to the rock that is God. We’re only able to get through this if we place our trust in Him and lean unto Him. His strength alone carries us through.
How awesome is it that we are never alone?
How incredible is His love for us that we can always rely on Him? How many times in your life has He come through, no matter the circumstances?
“The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him.”
Psalms 28:7 NKJV
Lord, thank you for my many blessings. Thank you that even though I am overwhelmed, you are there to support me and be with me. That you are my rock and I rejoice. Thank you that you are always near and that you always strengthen me. Father, I ask that whenever I am overwhelmed, please remind me of who you are and fill me with peace. Still my heart, and strengthen me. Over and over I ask this. Your word says I shall rise like the wings of an eagle, and with your strength I can do this.
Remind me to always look to you and seek you when things get too much.
Thank you Father,
